Benzo Addiction Treatment at Icarus in Boise

Icarus Wellness and Recovery in Boise provides ongoing addiction treatment and does not provide on-site medical detox or acute withdrawal care. If an outside medical evaluation, detox referral, or clearance is appropriate, it should occur before admission.

Contact our team to discuss treatment options and medication needs before starting care. The discussion of withdrawal and medication options on this page is general education, not a description of detox services available at Icarus Idaho.

Why Is Treatment Important for Benzodiazepine Dependence?

The body can adapt to regular benzodiazepine use, including prescribed use. Physical dependence means that dose reduction may trigger withdrawal; it is different from addiction. A clinician can assess symptoms, medication risks, and whether a substance use disorder is present.

Insurance Coverage for Treatment

HealthCare.gov explains that Marketplace plans include mental health and substance use treatment and provide parity protections. This does not guarantee payment for every service at every facility. Coverage depends on your plan, network, medical necessity, and authorization rules. Ask your insurer and our admissions team to verify benefits and likely costs.

Managing Severe Withdrawal Symptoms in Acute Detox Programs

The FDA warns against stopping benzodiazepines suddenly or reducing the dose too quickly. Withdrawal can occur even after prescribed use. Symptoms can include:

  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety, panic, or irritability
  • Tremor
  • Muscle pain or stiffness
  • Problems with memory or concentration

Seizures and other severe reactions need emergency care. Slowed or difficult breathing is also an emergency, especially when benzodiazepines are combined with opioids or alcohol; it should not be treated as an ordinary withdrawal symptom.

Lasting Effects of Benzodiazepine Withdrawal

Withdrawal onset varies with how long the medicine acts, the dose, duration of use, and dose changes. There is no one-week rule for recovery. The 2025 joint guideline notes that a taper may take months to years, particularly after prolonged, high-dose use. Persistent symptoms need follow-up.

Medication and Tapering Decisions

The 2025 joint guideline recommends an individualized, clinician-supervised taper. Some patients may transition to a longer-acting benzodiazepine when appropriate. Many can taper as outpatients; severe or complicated withdrawal may require medically managed care. The guideline advises against flumazenil for tapering because of seizure and heart-rhythm risks.

Medication and taper plans require a qualified prescriber. Icarus does not provide on-site medical detox or acute withdrawal care; discuss any required outside care before admission.

A 2015 review by Brett and Murnion provides historical context for benzodiazepine dependence care. It should be read alongside newer guidance.

Multiple Treatment Approaches for Successful Recovery

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) acknowledges that there is more than one approach to substance abuse treatment. It may not be as simple as prescribing other drugs to eliminate the use of benzos at higher doses. You need treatment that speaks to every aspect of your life.

Individual counseling in various modalities is proven to have a lasting effect on your recovery. Our counselors are trained in cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy and newer approaches such as motivational interviewing.

We also acknowledge that peer support is important to a lasting recovery. This is why we choose to offer a selection of support groups where you can learn new coping skills, share experiences, and possibly even work a Twelve Step program with peers.

Supportive activities such as yoga, music, and art therapy may complement a broader care plan. These resources do not establish that such activities treat benzodiazepine withdrawal or make rapid detox safe. They do not replace medical withdrawal care or counseling.

Why Choose Icarus Behavioral Health in Boise?

Understanding the need for evidence-based treatment for benzodiazepine abuse is only the first step to getting the care you ultimately need. Many facilities stand out regarding evidence-based treatment, but why should you ultimately land on Icarus Behavioral Health in our Boise location?

Here are just a few of the reasons our clients decide to face benzodiazepine dependence with us.

Options for Sub-Acute Care After Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Syndrome

Treating benzodiazepine addiction requires a multi-faceted approach to care based on the individual. Icarus Idaho is committed to you as a unique person with a wide range of services that meet you where you most need help.

Residential treatment at Icarus Idaho provides a structured setting for ongoing recovery when clinically appropriate. Icarus provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT), with individual medication decisions made by a qualified prescriber. Residential care does not include on-site medical detox or acute benzodiazepine withdrawal management. Any needed withdrawal care or medical stabilization must take place with an appropriate outside provider before admission.

After you transition from inpatient treatment, you may not be ready to return to life as you knew it. We also offer intensive outpatient programs where you spend several hours a day in treatment and return home at the end of each day. This allows you to practice new skills and maintain accountability.

There is a time and place for each stage of our program, and we will walk you through what you need to shore up your skills before returning to your regular routines.

Joint Commission Accredited Care

Icarus Behavioral Health is also committed to maintaining the highest level of patient care, evidenced by our accreditation with the Joint Commission. This third-party accreditation proves that we meet all OSHA and CMS standards and stringent guidelines set by the Joint Commission itself.

All of this means that you will have a safe, comfortable experience regardless of which treatment level you ultimately land on. Our facilities are designed to support treatment and recovery and offer you the perfect environment to relax and face your addiction without worrying about rebound effects and the toll they will take on you.

Treatment for Mental Health and Dual Diagnosis

Treatment for Mental Health and Dual Diagnosis

The truth is that many of our clients see an overlap between their substance use disorder and their mental health issues. Dual diagnosis is extremely common, with one in four adults with mental illness also experiencing issues with substance misuse.

Our clinical team assesses substance use and mental health needs to develop an individualized treatment plan. Counseling supports ongoing recovery, while a qualified prescriber evaluates medication needs and makes prescribing decisions. Medication and tapering needs should be discussed before admission so that any required outside medical care can be addressed.

If you need a fresh start for life-threatening mental disorders that keep you addicted to diazepam and other benzodiazepines, Icarus is here to help beyond what your primary care team can offer on more typical outpatient options where you may only be seen once or twice a month.

Personalized Treatment Plans to See Positive Changes

Our treatment team at Icarus Behavioral Health Boise is committed to helping you get off benzos once and for all. The goal isn’t to supply you with more prescriptions unless absolutely necessary for physical and mental health issues that surface in recovery. We also don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment.

Upon admission to any of our programs, we will evaluate your needs comprehensively and develop a custom treatment plan to combat benzo use. Whether you or your loved one are struggling with Xanax abuse, Valium abuse, issues with Klonopin, or other benzodiazepines, Icarus in Idaho can help.

We’ll take behavioral health statistics and the latest research into consideration to determine where you need the most help. From here, we can offer counseling and support groups that are tailored to your needs.

We aim to offer everything you may need to quit taking the drug for good. Our team can scale services up or down based on your progress in residential or outpatient programming
